Set Up Web Hosting/ r2 V, T( S3 \, D5 h: x1 k# `
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
. A& \. {& p6 I0 U) i! \: S' c" ^% Vabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared2 g: V* _( |( v0 D2 N& b' V) W
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
0 {1 E( J; G0 G3 q' P7 cwhoever else is on the same server as you.8 T* d2 q, v$ u
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
$ X5 j! K% S# `5 jenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3, t1 J6 j2 E- a& x1 @! a4 z- z
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.& f8 h7 ^" _$ }! C8 _. Y; B
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
8 t6 c/ N0 K) L/ w1 ghouse full of roommates (hosting customers).% L; _$ l- m+ G' b* ? {) Y" D
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
" U$ ~! |/ g9 g: h# A2 m9 @8 B" Kthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
/ e% ^* t0 Z7 zfit.) X/ ] H2 H# p& T2 r
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
/ p" H+ {) O- {! S/ wthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
0 A) ^1 j" l) `their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.8 U3 }" i2 y& B% s0 i2 Z7 x
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For" G1 K* |8 o8 U' s' U5 C
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
i8 z) i7 t7 w3 U1 YIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
" g1 N* l' ]( Qinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
; A, L, Z' c1 g# X: z# Vpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
+ ?1 S. W+ @( B! V* F3 }3 ]! }A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
! j: N$ c! j B' v: {belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more7 Q- G# n ^! l0 [( w# f
traffic, faster.
( l$ }7 u8 ^& }6 g. |8 c1 ?* HAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.7 R. }4 p; o/ j3 w) c
