Set Up Web Hosting$ \9 ~' Z; ~7 I/ F. o9 D2 T: g2 U" O
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said7 b4 F# V$ V& F' a) @3 c- D) x
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
( F6 y5 K$ s" X0 Y( Mhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
4 V3 U2 d# k' M; a0 y5 \whoever else is on the same server as you.& @* j9 e: k. C1 T2 r, E
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast' `2 `* c0 L( O3 A
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3. W- n4 @/ R5 a$ M4 E/ h# b1 t
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.- L" e) |' h6 w# i2 v$ L3 P6 J: c. q
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a& ]& R) G/ G+ O4 r% b
house full of roommates (hosting customers).7 ^$ y. T# V9 T9 X) N) c% a) Z
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside, g0 u, y$ o ]$ r
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
4 W% z4 C S9 S ufit.
3 `+ h! b+ M: B! T F( MSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than' n3 d! v/ h( H- i
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
/ F- H, P3 y7 l% D' Y+ V" ntheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
8 g8 F6 O' g6 P+ i+ k7 p% o+ q* QIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For5 m; V9 O% M7 u( H: ?) ^1 i7 t$ m
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.2 k: A; V i5 \5 O) ^9 _
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space) S5 z0 N% j2 M
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is F" Z' k" U4 x' N
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
* L, u% m' I9 G1 c5 u& o% p% `+ |" ]A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
5 t; I2 O" {# p$ k, V& Z% D. {belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
- ^6 R0 e9 y7 e, k% Otraffic, faster.
; B4 y, K$ ]5 t) eAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
