3 v0 ~: _! Q3 J% ?" MGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
! i5 G/ E2 Q1 I, iabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
% q7 t* K7 r/ n5 j( f6 ghost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
5 _ u; n/ @6 A1 \. g2 swhoever else is on the same server as you.
5 m9 R; k. w$ D) D! S; M# XSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
9 L( X5 c$ V1 I! f: R* Henough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 38 g* M4 C4 k, I; K" L- l2 u
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
+ c, Y- C- G) tTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
! d0 Y: u# w9 X; @5 l/ Shouse full of roommates (hosting customers).4 h7 b/ D. B" J7 ~/ j! R
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
! r; g, L9 p# j" l- vthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
/ r" L4 ^" }# e: p F6 @; N9 }fit.
& O) V8 R/ ^% ~' pSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
' W6 j& b# n8 ? D, I& ythe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
& T: [# W+ X* B0 P1 a$ Q6 P) O0 Ktheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
' ?. C- H2 I2 e4 `If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
b( h# k4 R/ j3 x# w' u3 K! `any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
3 {8 g; n$ C; QIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space& j- Z" ?" C' Q& y# ?) I* r
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
& n: C) D) k' ?) Gpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.+ q) e1 ?/ o; o( A! s
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources4 m, h1 O) {* M1 @
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
# ?8 \2 T9 S. c4 A) \' `! ^traffic, faster.# r- _! H) _, l8 s3 E
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
