Set Up Web Hosting9 A4 k" t' S% B# W; U+ z* n
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said* q$ N2 y. E1 y5 g- w( W2 p" `
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared3 P7 o7 J1 t6 X( y
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with/ _/ s" ~& b3 s$ m0 q
whoever else is on the same server as you.
2 Y# T- s7 |5 a J& j% oSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast6 @. n5 P# D6 x5 D0 g' q' H% g8 _
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 33 z- F2 B: ?! g' r
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
* V/ Q' i! h6 D' r. fTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
! d7 U5 y; G3 @* U$ Q3 B9 j$ G: b2 ^house full of roommates (hosting customers).! U; K% a# G7 P% v/ e3 c
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside' ]! g4 V5 W' y, I7 k+ J
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
' f8 d3 H [1 i% Qfit.
% Y/ d& I0 y& f" mSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
% u3 y; H" x4 c( {- ?the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate; G6 X! C- `% b$ y, d) d
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.) g1 m+ j; Z- A: E" l
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
+ w- C0 w5 h5 g7 f1 z% Sany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
0 {/ u2 E; G: f( v! b+ O: T I, ]In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space2 Z. M1 D: w/ ]; A
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is; R! d3 \3 C; w) u3 F7 b1 o Z
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.3 T) a- ?8 k( G- s5 q. N! q
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources6 ~1 L" @0 }" f1 Q) ?
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
; T5 O; z) Q1 N3 ^6 Q- ?traffic, faster.
# g6 [5 D, i: ]$ b" |- `At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
