Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
9 s) s- x& O; Q, M- f& Rabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared4 w% j& W6 {, N& X4 E H8 ?
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with% B0 h% K: c1 y1 N: A( W
whoever else is on the same server as you.' o2 h% t4 C( E; x! S6 m9 K
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast0 ~1 r2 ^7 I) S, M& E1 E3 @
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
7 t% h9 `8 I" u6 G9 h3 {/ i$ Vseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.: m+ \) t) U. i
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a0 L1 X7 z6 A, u8 {( d
house full of roommates (hosting customers).4 c; s9 q3 e6 G: J! P8 s" P
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
8 @/ R# b' W! B1 q3 n& Dthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
2 a& t8 @# m+ X0 W6 Gfit.
/ d) J6 d- t7 @8 B% a$ H4 m+ B8 eSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than P. }3 y7 m( |3 u# c/ p) e
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
7 y5 ]8 p) ?" E4 \their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.6 W) t- J, k# g q5 X$ P) ^/ `
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
, s U9 [$ y6 u8 m8 x4 z3 v/ Dany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.6 B4 _/ D8 h5 ^# v1 Q4 D- }( U' Q
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
7 g+ @5 F* U0 q; B( q" I1 Uinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
f0 |* t# D# ^6 p/ L, x- z3 kpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.' b: N0 W( G1 P
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources! F- A' }) K4 m& u$ [* p5 l2 F
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
# T; N; w8 `$ f& s1 o! straffic, faster.
5 Q2 v) D- Y7 ]% q/ m9 j/ |At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.7 G. M, v7 z' L3 Q8 |
