Affiliate marketing is simply a business, like any other. There are customers, sales, suppliers and cash! K) a9 K! T! @

the ability for a marketer to be a one person shop and make an incredible amount of money with low

where you're likely to get rich overnight. Everyone I've ever met who has been successful at internet5 o8 r% U9 x% c3 `
marketing has spent countless hours learning, trying new things, launching, tweaking, improving,5 i9 C: O/ ?: e+ R9 a4 G( ^3 r
trying something else, failing. There isn't any guaranteed recipe for success except this: persistence.

1.Web Hosting- preferably a VPS (virtual private server) or higher (e.g. Beyond Hosting, Hostgator)

6 [8 k8 |0 S+ S' G3.Account at a CPV/PPV traffic network (e.g. LeadImpact, Trafficvance, MediaTraffic)

affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. The two main( [ |# M. }2 W

Cost per sale (CPS) network- Every time an affiliate sends a visitor who buys a product, the affiliate/ o8 `: W; B8 t
receives a commission on that product. An example would be the Amazon.com Associates program,
; B5 L8 h1 C/ ~" Y# A( LComission Junction or Clickbank.
& I! }; V& ^: Q$ w4 G, RCost per action (CPA) network- The affiliate earns a commission by sending a visitor who completes2 G N, E# \/ d7 \1 p3 F
an action like filling out a form, submitting their email address, signing up for a service or sometimes
0 e h: Z" f; u2 W4 P6 M( Jbuying a product. An example would be Ads4Dough or Neverblue.
7 o2 ~% C3 v* j& g! xAffiliate Manager- an affiliate's contact at a CPA affiliate network who is responsible for the affiliate's5 s3 d4 v2 G; a$ K' G$ |. [$ e$ R
account, getting the affiliate approved for offers, bumping payouts and just about everything else
e0 \# U3 k+ `% ~$ Drelated to an affiliate's account at the network. Having a good relationship with your affiliate manager! U% w* ~/ m T
right from the start can really help you.2 Q3 p3 L" W7 q! |6 `+ D E4 }
PPV- means pay-per-view, and is also called CPV (cost-per-view). This type of internet traffic is served
4 h3 C; C6 f4 F- Kin pop-up form through downloadable software on the visitor's computer. The advertiser pays per( C9 U J' i4 v
view, starting anywhere from .01 or .015.
9 M( P1 d" j) q- r" D9 m! n! y% }In order to use this type of internet traffic, the affiliate can sign up with a number of different$ S; b9 |% w5 Z' g
companies who serve popups. The main PPV/CPV networks are Trafficvance, LeadImpact,& e: Q/ L% P/ p2 f$ V6 A' ~
MediaTraffic, and AdOn Network.

No. Popups are served in a new browser window as if the visitor had opened the new window

How many popups get served to the visitor?
; R# @! z3 a7 Q5 v' c- NThe number of popups served varies depending on the PPV network. Some pop more frequently
* t6 ~' d6 b, {% p. n; p8 D(LeadImpact), others less frequently (Trafficvance). PPV advertising companies make their money by
! }4 I/ Z3 I s9 L3 [serving this kind of advertising, so they have to toe the line between keeping their software- G/ a' B- Q! e3 ]! @( V

Isn't this type of software bad? Why would anyone keep it on their computer?. A0 k% R: F8 z% P4 a
No, this type of software doesn't harm the user's computer.: i/ E4 p# x. T$ g
Companies that specialize in this type of traffic offer their visitor an incentive like screensavers, games,% N" z2 g' x% v! B0 x+ m% |
toolbars or videos to place the software on their computer. The visitor keeps the software in place so( N2 K6 ]: m( e7 B; i
that they can continue to have access to the incentive.# s. P! \ m) ^4 `1 l/ `

How to Get Accepted into a CPA Network
6 g/ j! ^- Q: U& ]In order to start marketing offers, it will be necessary to join one or more CPA networks. A good place
* }. X9 _2 G: M0 Ato start looking for networks is Offervault which lists offers and lets you compare payouts across. u* w% j, j) d; C/ N
different networks.
4 B4 A% I1 X' G9 yOnce you find a network that you want to join, fill out the affiliate (sometimes called publisher)8 {0 B c+ g- @8 c, X( w* Y1 b
application and be as specific as possible about your promotion methods. Usually some time after( z* f, k) d5 s
receiving your application, the company will call to interview you. The phone interview is a critical
! Q% T; F. } \6 n4 H- ypart of the application process, and most networks will deny your application outright if they can't get8 ~1 R5 K/ s4 _, F2 h1 s7 U
you on the phone.8 `% ~) A1 a D: Z: }$ C z5 G% @
Often, the person who does your phone interview will actually become your affiliate manager after+ C- y/ e* p' d" d- N5 E% Q# C
you get accepted, so it's a good time to put your best food forward." p4 G* K) f# K% a
You might not relish at the idea of someone grilling you about your internet marketing methods over
) T+ n8 B/ J1 athe phone, but trust me, this part is critical. Have answers in mind for the questions:
4 \ F/ V% V; w ~/ w8 GWhat methods do you use to market offers?" s; I, T& L2 A/ e8 o4 M5 @
Do you already have a website you will be using?
O/ v& [0 {2 c* S# X0 F0 A; dHow much is your advertising budget?3 E# v T; ]+ Z: W& l- C4 F
What other networks are you a member of?
8 t4 h1 R/ B s: i% F4 ?* C' uWho are your affiliate managers at these networks?
# `; M, j. ?; b$ TDo you use social media (Facebook, twitter, etc.) to market offers?

V% b6 O! i; d Z; B" OOnce you provide satisfactory answers to these questions, the network will approve or deny your* {- o- F1 _% }8 B1 G! E
application. If you get denied, just keep applying or call someone on the phone and try again. Be
& d2 i1 Z, w0 \/ Z! ^& tpersistent. Also, getting a personal recommendation from someone who is already an active affiliate* z( G2 v- }, f4 e* l/ H9 P2 m+ g
for the network can be helpful.+ e) k& J* R: q& K" E5 m
To meet people from various networks, sometimes it can be effective to go to conferences like Affiliate
' g% ~9 H5 s! T4 E; vSummit, or AdTech and make sure that you talk to people. Also, lots of affiliate managers and network
5 J) E& X: {7 }/ j6 J' {owners are members of the PPVPlaybook.com forum and WickedFire. Sometimes just getting to know$ |% B3 h( |; m1 g9 m; E

After You Join a CPA Network
# N: E% k$ i6 Z+ b5 W0 A% FOnce you're a member of a CPA Network, it's a really good idea to reach out to your affiliate manager7 W/ ?. I+ d1 ?3 ~- b
and make an attempt to get to know them a little bit.( \ J+ x; @9 Y$ E& r1 ^( N
Frankly, there are great affiliate managers and horrible ones, and a good one can be worth their
5 L$ O! a2 s* ~! s3 d% \weight in gold. Start feeling them out from the start and try to get to know them. Once you get8 p% \/ `4 k0 g- s7 \

larger, they can really help you with your marketing efforts, scaling campaigns and getting payout P, P- i$ W& ~! c
bumps on offers. Lots of times it's easiest to communicate with your AM in real time over AIM versus

2 i" D1 c! o( p6 g: \9 M8 O, rGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
# e7 C4 O1 g( v/ tabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared5 ?" |8 V; X) |+ ~; Z
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
z" P& q4 R- ~$ V+ Twhoever else is on the same server as you.
/ I2 ?2 u1 G% G- b4 aSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
6 h4 L( }/ H' _& b4 ~enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
' b% ?( e& o" r9 ]+ f( Jseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.; U$ g% h2 V' u. Y: G4 D, r
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a$ P1 A0 M& b0 w
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
3 u6 d" X1 X; ~0 L' I+ |- q. q, GIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside1 L" E! Y6 w) i% ]: X
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
5 g& X2 L6 N- v) p; o9 lfit.
' ]# _! T# d. F. Z( K0 [Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than3 y; H+ U/ T- K% L& O* w9 Q
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
9 a: [! z+ `0 G! H' C5 Btheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.) m: H: M" r! i7 A4 w: ^
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For; y* K4 G ]# ^( d) z
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.. z/ I2 {. y2 A6 X8 J
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
+ ]! m1 H/ c, x# {6 D7 o" Ainside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
& a9 i, ?! {% O; H- spartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.8 q3 p- s5 W0 Q' ^" M
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
1 J; a. m5 w6 V) b5 R# j9 K8 P% vbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more) |" u6 X2 {% m! |7 S" L/ K* X. u' B

At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server./ d( h) _& E2 D+ y& u5 C

Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,/ r4 a0 `1 m, b4 Z# T
bland one is fine to start with, to host both your landing pages and tracking software. The .com,$ i. b7 Y- ]6 j4 ^$ l D" f- n
.net, .org extension doesn't really matter, this isn't a domain we're going to try to use to SEO rank for a
# v2 R, ]/ L/ h) K Tterm or build a whole website.
, c/ _$ t: ^2 C, [/ KAfter you buy hosting, a domain and get those all attached to each other, the next step is to install
/ c7 A! P; T( ?tracking software on your domain. This is really important, because it is necessary to track your
; p" ^8 a' A5 v1 oconversions down to keyword level so that you can optimize your campaigns. Without proper
! Z. Q9 n: Z3 J& atracking, it is impossible to know what is working and what isn't.

Tracking 202 is the hosted version of Prosper202. You can create a free account and then build your# v4 @8 w8 e& D( n+ V4 M
campaigns using the Tracking202 internet-based interface which is similar to the Prosper202 user

+ n ?8 L q- ~: Q: s) O- YIf you choose this option, keep in mind that your tracking software, one of the most important parts of

When you choose an offer, always make sure that it accepts PPV traffic, usually this is listed on the first
* ^' T G) e+ h* C ^page as contextual, downloadable software. This $1,000 Walmart gift card email submit offer says
5 v+ `0 B% M9 [& L7 n3 D# xthat all traffic is accepted.
+ W+ R" ~' S" F. \- p* mFirst, I log into Ads4Dough and click on Campaigns, then Email/Zip submits.0 v2 x' k, e* m8 ]* b. p7 N+ H" e5 F" j
This is where I get my link for the offer, place my tracking pixel from Prosper202 or CPVLab, and can* n, y: [/ o& e; p7 ~$ b1 G8 `1 r
get creatives like banners or images specifically for the offer.

track my keywords. Without doing this, it isn't possible to see what's converting.
