Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said7 k/ _% y5 b* T9 f; }% a
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared: D# K( i1 ?" i' o
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
" z6 S7 m+ ]0 c1 A, t3 a9 Z, ]3 l' }whoever else is on the same server as you./ ]9 M3 ~/ V4 U& {! h. N/ u7 @) X
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast( a ?, W/ i" X! T( e9 {! z
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3; I; q7 K5 q; h3 v) ]$ z- } ^$ K
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.- m ~+ {7 N$ k
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
. x( |% y5 a) |7 Ehouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
; }/ V l/ ^2 _In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside' d' i* J1 P: M5 { W3 d* P! \
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will; Z, u3 i* P) \: ~- P8 ]
fit.
% U. t% e) q9 d. W! Y8 ~2 fSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than* e1 \# y9 L$ F
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate z( O9 ^5 `# Q- D8 x* Q
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.( {+ N6 _# S* x4 N d
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For/ B- c: X& M v$ v8 m4 g, j
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
$ h/ U# J' A& Z$ u9 R0 XIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space9 s' k9 m7 h8 x6 y8 E' U' V, G4 e, C
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
/ i' q) G: ^2 p3 Y3 \0 ^+ xpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.. I( [* t( C( z/ O7 o5 O$ k# o( E: n
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
- ^6 M) q: b* z3 O9 E: D9 lbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
) R5 C3 B, U1 b5 W) Gtraffic, faster.- S) y5 Z; g0 o% u
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.; U8 h2 V2 F" B5 h
