! q. T! s9 `$ N4 dGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
3 i* K+ t# j+ j: D1 Q6 wabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
" O$ B4 C" P+ ^4 M3 F3 I# i; vhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with4 }- L B3 n2 _) A+ |
whoever else is on the same server as you.
8 H. v7 J/ w! }Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast* e9 j; ]& ?, s
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3/ Y n( k' m) i- l4 _; m& m3 `
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
9 s8 o" `( a8 Y% v8 L. PTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a2 t, v+ R9 t' v" z6 L8 s
house full of roommates (hosting customers).$ j: q: ?% k$ W e1 r8 d
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside9 D; m" i0 c/ M) L. r( P
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
+ N, ^, p, T _* }; T/ ifit.
# F5 R- F6 `+ {! iSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than4 e. k- n! v6 q2 r, k5 H/ y: Q+ o
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
, U& D- R0 e; S: U2 f7 @their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of. \; G. U: I* G* r, Z
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
% t* E' n1 g7 s, u- }: a- |any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
, |% \5 j* n6 g. FIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
, C. `/ }( g E' z" x7 {8 Tinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is) l9 V+ Z! V' B( ] z
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
( @6 U9 G" q, v B# [A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources# X: t" o/ B. g: S' e6 M# Z H
