Set Up Web Hosting" l+ Q0 X5 p1 `5 Z3 B$ N0 \1 x7 Y
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
% J& m9 ]7 @- q7 ?0 J$ t; Vabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
0 s! z( J: E; n i% g( qhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with4 I2 u- M; Q9 n
whoever else is on the same server as you./ p) U" |% @+ v1 M5 S5 O
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
p1 m$ m) e8 f- l9 [enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
! B" T T+ S0 L& Gseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.; H, D& g1 x& U c. b6 ^& j4 O
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
. o5 J' J: R, g( T$ Ohouse full of roommates (hosting customers).1 V$ [5 S, n; o' M4 I
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside+ j# o, q p5 Y4 g/ \) z
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
1 N- r: @. L+ Y1 x/ T( a6 Tfit.7 n! p, h$ H. r7 I+ }# t
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than7 \" t9 I P5 I' l- C' e; y2 X$ l
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate+ \6 \9 y) I: w3 x8 {) `
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.: {3 ~2 C2 v* D" x& ^ D* a$ [/ E- s
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For: J+ s" G) Z, |# {
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.. S, J/ f; {* M
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
. q4 [* a( h" {1 C1 m, Qinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
8 n8 D; F/ }: V! {partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
4 d" Y- m4 O q: o2 k' p8 ]7 fA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources! }* c( I' u# q* K! T( u) H1 q
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
; U' o `6 J, M1 \traffic, faster.0 ^% V o/ G* D9 Q& j' B
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

Domain Names for PPV" i4 [; m! q- c! M7 u; {) d% c; v$ c
Once you buy your hosting it's time to also buy a domain name and get it on your hosting. This is1 g1 v3 D L, W3 f
where you're going to host your tracking software and your landing pages if you decide to make them.* e3 T3 N3 ?1 M8 f1 B
Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,& n3 x( ?3 ^$ a t3 k
