The affiliate marketing space is filled with offers, internet traffic sources, promotion techniques and an7 W3 i; p; U+ A( `* r6 K' H
ever-increasing list of gurus who claim to know (and be able to teach you) the “next big thing” where2 j- o6 C' @; h! A. C& d
you'll wake up to millions of dollars overnight. For anyone who has ACTUALLY done affiliate marketing
! {9 Q# Z1 [3 f) ^7 v) owith any success, these claims are laughable and far from the truth.
6 r5 V4 c1 t# BAffiliate marketing is simply a business, like any other. There are customers, sales, suppliers and cash! O: R! ^7 k" ]# m3 k+ V
flow management. The main benefits are the low barrier to entry compared to other businesses, and
3 V. G& l: E7 ~; c* rthe ability for a marketer to be a one person shop and make an incredible amount of money with low; p* p9 J, C, `- C
overhead.
: `2 L* h6 _' n% ?The winners in this business are the ones with persistence when nothing works, who know there's# q* W/ a$ a/ a& ?# r' `1 |& I7 [9 r2 k8 i

The cold hard reality is this: virtually everything in the space is changeable, what worked today can( h" ^7 F5 n: [# l/ d! B. b5 |6 s- T
stop working tomorrow, you can (and will) get slapped, banned, kicked out, and generally screw up.. S+ t; ?' }' w/ F& v

Your competitors are willing to work at this around the clock. This isn't a push button, instant business

trying something else, failing. There isn't any guaranteed recipe for success except this: persistence.

3.Account at a CPV/PPV traffic network (e.g. LeadImpact, Trafficvance, MediaTraffic)

Basic Getting Started Definitions8 U C' V: y! X9 H
Affiliate Marketing- is an internet-based marketing practice in which a business pays one or more
1 y0 @9 m4 h7 s7 E! U* I! y$ jaffiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. The two main, w# k& [& ^" Y: Q. C

types off affiliate networks are cost per sale (CPS) and cost per action (CPA).# M3 U/ D# y) n5 v- g9 v7 m% m
Cost per sale (CPS) network- Every time an affiliate sends a visitor who buys a product, the affiliate
$ ?1 ] D! J+ c/ Z0 y: [receives a commission on that product. An example would be the Amazon.com Associates program,8 D' M. M. r( U7 y6 D
Comission Junction or Clickbank.
5 P& Q' p* g! a2 WCost per action (CPA) network- The affiliate earns a commission by sending a visitor who completes0 F' K8 N3 q! Y) z0 S4 Z1 u
an action like filling out a form, submitting their email address, signing up for a service or sometimes
1 i" t: g' `8 \# q, n9 s. rbuying a product. An example would be Ads4Dough or Neverblue.
; V/ ]1 Z2 |; H" V3 w$ x; SAffiliate Manager- an affiliate's contact at a CPA affiliate network who is responsible for the affiliate's
. E+ q! X) E2 s% \account, getting the affiliate approved for offers, bumping payouts and just about everything else
9 c! s: w& [1 O1 E6 @# Zrelated to an affiliate's account at the network. Having a good relationship with your affiliate manager+ V6 U5 j) U q% W
right from the start can really help you.- @9 \& L4 k- C8 O8 F
PPV- means pay-per-view, and is also called CPV (cost-per-view). This type of internet traffic is served
& Z4 n" U( z k4 P1 X) @2 L; F0 jin pop-up form through downloadable software on the visitor's computer. The advertiser pays per
( _+ a$ z, P$ s5 cview, starting anywhere from .01 or .015.: }- T3 q+ @/ {( A% c
In order to use this type of internet traffic, the affiliate can sign up with a number of different
- N$ d/ O6 w& q; Hcompanies who serve popups. The main PPV/CPV networks are Trafficvance, LeadImpact,2 M$ U. j' H2 j* o
MediaTraffic, and AdOn Network.
' _" ]$ x$ s% v. H: a% O2 [& I* hDon't popups get blocked by pop blocker software?" {" @ {" F$ }6 w
No. Popups are served in a new browser window as if the visitor had opened the new window

The number of popups served varies depending on the PPV network. Some pop more frequently
2 t0 y5 ~' B" E- N5 o6 }(LeadImpact), others less frequently (Trafficvance). PPV advertising companies make their money by
) u) F, r4 ?8 y4 t yserving this kind of advertising, so they have to toe the line between keeping their software
" D4 k$ S0 h: E. J& H5 a% s% v# udownloaded and still making a profit.
* L. Z+ w7 p# `& A* G" A, [' SIsn't this type of software bad? Why would anyone keep it on their computer?
# u3 T0 {2 a6 q0 d& B5 ~! PNo, this type of software doesn't harm the user's computer.
5 s* [0 J5 u$ V sCompanies that specialize in this type of traffic offer their visitor an incentive like screensavers, games,6 l% g/ D2 T) n+ z$ b! Q6 i! m
toolbars or videos to place the software on their computer. The visitor keeps the software in place so
9 w4 N: N' P' v9 c+ B& E4 l. d, b; nthat they can continue to have access to the incentive.

! C) J& g. X$ s- o# @* Q- {In order to start marketing offers, it will be necessary to join one or more CPA networks. A good place1 O% k* V) e7 e$ a `2 o
to start looking for networks is Offervault which lists offers and lets you compare payouts across
2 X8 g* X5 Y- t9 V( A. _# Jdifferent networks.
1 g* S) y2 N" O% v# J" POnce you find a network that you want to join, fill out the affiliate (sometimes called publisher)+ p: X6 n& o a2 R4 L2 v9 e( u
application and be as specific as possible about your promotion methods. Usually some time after, R5 Y' P+ W! x: j, |; Q( U
receiving your application, the company will call to interview you. The phone interview is a critical: a3 B! H! E( d: x4 r4 F+ \+ F
part of the application process, and most networks will deny your application outright if they can't get: ]% [5 G) A3 `) u
you on the phone.
4 K1 ]& s8 l" t# |Often, the person who does your phone interview will actually become your affiliate manager after
4 l9 I; R" a$ U8 N) iyou get accepted, so it's a good time to put your best food forward.
2 z ]4 `! H1 {4 T& U wYou might not relish at the idea of someone grilling you about your internet marketing methods over, a6 u% U- K; _5 t
the phone, but trust me, this part is critical. Have answers in mind for the questions:
1 W% _+ ]7 N- ?. W5 U( C* u) {What methods do you use to market offers?
! w+ N- N) ?' p- tDo you already have a website you will be using?3 f* i4 X: c) H3 j) m y5 Z
How much is your advertising budget?6 p* i0 J. U3 {3 F5 S
What other networks are you a member of?0 Y; N0 p- @' O; \( z8 w
Who are your affiliate managers at these networks?
5 g: o8 B' K# W8 ~7 J7 `Do you use social media (Facebook, twitter, etc.) to market offers?

Do you have a personal recommendation from anyone who is already a member?* a( n# h8 M- V! L9 h: F: R
Once you provide satisfactory answers to these questions, the network will approve or deny your
' E- z' ^0 Z6 z, G# rapplication. If you get denied, just keep applying or call someone on the phone and try again. Be0 x( L7 }8 Q. }6 B$ I
persistent. Also, getting a personal recommendation from someone who is already an active affiliate" C! O, `" s! A9 B
for the network can be helpful.
0 q2 a& [, d I% N2 LTo meet people from various networks, sometimes it can be effective to go to conferences like Affiliate, J2 _4 f* G7 ~. }% ]) C
Summit, or AdTech and make sure that you talk to people. Also, lots of affiliate managers and network) G* g4 Z0 E' b8 Q @, Y3 m* W4 N
owners are members of the PPVPlaybook.com forum and WickedFire. Sometimes just getting to know

After You Join a CPA Network: e: u: p. I2 X) F
Once you're a member of a CPA Network, it's a really good idea to reach out to your affiliate manager: b2 S" C3 c n( A% c$ d
and make an attempt to get to know them a little bit.2 I1 z2 m | E3 J) `
Frankly, there are great affiliate managers and horrible ones, and a good one can be worth their3 F: j, X- [2 u. p9 r& [/ E& p" n
weight in gold. Start feeling them out from the start and try to get to know them. Once you get

7 T" K% K3 S! F5 X) S: tGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said5 \5 m7 a. M$ @; o$ Y8 F
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared @4 S: Z8 P6 n( G/ m5 _6 K" u
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
: }8 f) i: L) m8 @* ?. J7 L% p% l# uwhoever else is on the same server as you.
; }4 c% ]. P/ H3 `- O) V, eSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
, `- r, H9 M9 m4 [ ~enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3) l5 [7 X5 q$ n" j6 f5 I
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.: t/ m1 e9 |. k3 w
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
2 x# E! _5 U1 K# N- m+ C9 whouse full of roommates (hosting customers).) |8 ]: L- H, D C5 `% P
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside- Z3 g5 E" c: @
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
' \3 L8 ^) u2 l: g6 Zfit.
& |! W' @9 t! c4 c1 w' I+ X8 ASay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
- h2 u" b [1 ^ j: b. z4 ~# mthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate4 A7 z. k) ^% l( m& H0 {
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
6 G, t, d5 E) `' dIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For# O: m' x+ |3 v$ m( {' ?' a
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
" j' ]! w4 u( ]: t$ W; B+ q# T& NIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space% X* e' p1 p/ |, }: e
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
% x: x( B0 l) I. l+ o3 u5 c6 @partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
: \/ D+ y2 e8 q4 w5 u$ g1 R1 zA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
3 o- T H5 V# F1 C! d S3 P- T( E( U7 Gbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
4 Z# _& Y# u; }- P3 X" Rtraffic, faster.
* f( w) x/ l, k9 X* N& QAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,, X& Y- s5 w1 C: W/ R0 g4 z
bland one is fine to start with, to host both your landing pages and tracking software. The .com,- M9 C% q% _: m+ |8 i7 \8 T
.net, .org extension doesn't really matter, this isn't a domain we're going to try to use to SEO rank for a
9 D% l2 }3 l9 a9 m+ eterm or build a whole website.1 {4 M& Q2 s8 u
After you buy hosting, a domain and get those all attached to each other, the next step is to install8 O5 a4 n2 V7 y; z
tracking software on your domain. This is really important, because it is necessary to track your
" T# D5 P$ _( m# y& j- Lconversions down to keyword level so that you can optimize your campaigns. Without proper

campaigns using the Tracking202 internet-based interface which is similar to the Prosper202 user8 i2 N! W6 W+ g* l! k# I* J
area.
; e/ f: O; W) bIf you choose this option, keep in mind that your tracking software, one of the most important parts of6 x+ c# o5 t/ l
your campaigns and through which all of your affiliate links are run- is at the mercy of the Tracking2025 X: V- K' U- E9 p$ H
interface, and their hosting.
# C# S3 A6 ]8 N' t! m& C) rAlso, your tracking software reveals the most critical part of your campaigns- the converting keywords2 V0 \; r U. L4 t6 q! H

that all traffic is accepted.- p$ G5 M! o% D, s* @7 K/ J* s
First, I log into Ads4Dough and click on Campaigns, then Email/Zip submits.+ n" Z1 V6 q% m9 s- n, Z
This is where I get my link for the offer, place my tracking pixel from Prosper202 or CPVLab, and can

from your software into the box that says 'Enter URL of image to load'.
