Set Up Web Hosting" c0 F h* t+ C
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
8 T1 e t9 K! `2 \4 L, j1 L, q9 ?about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
) W7 Z1 r* f' y7 ]+ s1 z Thost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
`2 l& t Y6 a/ k' o& [whoever else is on the same server as you./ B7 }! G1 {* u) a$ O1 A
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast8 V9 n7 Y2 S- b* h$ c8 D
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3' s* H' c. {0 G& V
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
% _, b! [9 _: `+ [2 YTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
$ ]# [- M; C. f6 z4 ^( Phouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
: Z: X* j& M. N+ W# PIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside: E) P; @, F A( I$ S# g
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will1 }: W( g" b; s2 b6 p' m6 u
fit.' ~9 h3 b, `8 X
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
; M% Q4 A& J+ n& U- H2 Dthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate. O5 @% N% `' a1 v+ A# Z& S2 j
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
, [% k8 o* i8 ^. P+ t* \If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
" N& I6 h) V* d" oany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.3 ~8 T1 O: Z6 M& a: X! ]% m
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space4 g5 P* S3 U) J2 I5 w
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is O# H: [# {' S2 e/ `! L) ?( S
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
5 g6 J4 k) D3 S3 H" n4 {A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
3 e+ N% r$ F# V* Lbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
/ c( M A# W1 ^9 Ptraffic, faster.: K$ i, y& c9 ~, E& ]+ f; X
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.: h7 b/ D8 B: M8 u! H
