Set Up Web Hosting
- J9 z7 a( _7 V* w! q' b! g. ?Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
, R0 }3 i6 G; z! gabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
; R) x" m; e4 z* E( b: ^$ ?+ }host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
- A; ]& N3 D& I/ f4 V6 J7 C, V3 jwhoever else is on the same server as you.6 W4 N3 z8 l1 D' C3 @
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
c: Q# B( ]+ y( |3 R: |enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3) B: |3 t) B5 i5 m/ S& P
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
6 ^5 K' {2 d9 `* P: Z; K$ a6 hTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a+ g/ G0 [( W& T% k9 {/ x
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
2 F- ~: Q( z2 \$ u6 P4 D n" qIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
' {8 d" [ d p8 l7 t. h* Sthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will/ l% S5 |" w. ?8 r$ d
fit.1 i9 N) B- g: q0 \* j2 ?" i. z
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
3 I* z0 ?1 W5 I, H2 @( K( Zthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate8 ^2 N6 h# Q3 ~ x
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.6 S! L' t4 A' G" O6 Y# V+ I
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For: U4 \/ [8 U4 K! _5 c. |
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
" i. M/ B; D: ~- ]' M. NIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space A1 T+ L4 [( ~3 q) y- H& R6 U
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
0 \2 z. I2 l: T, Hpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
2 u' j9 K, ]- S$ G$ _1 XA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources* E4 e4 w$ Q# }* h: M) v
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more) H+ z- J# _) _; H: S; v0 b1 w
traffic, faster.; W* Q9 _$ O5 Z# c: w
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.3 K3 D! H# h9 R' s- a
