7 O- N5 j- V1 p' `% j4 F e1 USet Up Web Hosting. C1 ]) m4 P" P
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
8 c7 g, Y. H5 v# s7 B1 S6 |about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
* v; m# P2 k v7 g% f6 Rhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
, r+ x6 ` w- a, p* }whoever else is on the same server as you.
- r+ }- m7 K+ n7 K6 CSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
0 w* M% M4 J' N" X2 f$ @enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 38 Q/ P+ I, q8 S/ \; B: m: i
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
, `; \* K& A; C$ {; v/ v0 P& }8 u6 _To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
- ^1 `' e W4 X O6 U8 R0 Ohouse full of roommates (hosting customers)./ Q2 K8 e0 `* P3 u0 e
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside B% @1 \5 R$ p4 C* Q% |/ l
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will F# W; w8 u3 U7 t ]3 F1 p
fit.
2 @4 t* A) V5 T7 E6 F/ bSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
' {/ ]/ X& B9 M- u1 m! M/ U6 X8 rthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate: E* d4 V: @5 R: K; Z9 ~
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of./ |* |+ A4 L5 c) d* K# L, H
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
& l* n& w# I6 Vany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.- o0 t/ G0 {2 g4 \1 \/ @8 I- Z! f
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space5 \1 b! ^3 U4 o+ W' t1 _
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
8 u* K N+ }2 W* Mpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.1 Z4 r# w# i2 V% B, c1 `' L8 P6 K. q
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
( B% ~6 B! L0 f1 Ebelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more7 }) A) q; n; Y1 [/ H
traffic, faster.
0 E! Z2 o" {% y- F7 ^; DAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
