Set Up Web Hosting
' M% \, B; z0 o# y6 qGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said) T/ M6 [% G$ a3 i# f2 y- u0 S
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
; [$ D8 H+ L+ U' w2 d' Vhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with8 N2 f) b& s0 E& m6 N+ f6 w
whoever else is on the same server as you.
A$ v4 a1 W/ W$ Q1 [1 TSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
' b) K$ u% J$ y) A0 Menough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
/ D3 j. k/ V- Z3 b' u& Gseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
- U. T' B5 E+ S" |! u& a' NTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
% ]; u# e1 I" A8 Ehouse full of roommates (hosting customers).* t0 f& _ q! m
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside2 O' s% X2 @/ ~- t, P
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
5 b8 ?/ L: M* t: s( F. Z! h2 Kfit.
0 Y; v0 G/ B8 B& N" u& ESay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
. U- K! x: ~2 l) d C1 V, ?( Vthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
( C& v0 a! X; Y! P; j9 ktheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.* ~& e; w) J% x4 G# s6 Q
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
2 N3 ^6 `' Q" Q, Y4 b/ xany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.$ O# O2 g1 ~2 y% M) Y4 n
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
. p& G5 T0 d$ V+ e( h8 j z# l5 Ginside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is& V/ o g4 u+ K& g' k" j- t
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.; m" V; Z1 ~: q8 M$ ?! X
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
+ _' M* { N: O5 [8 B. wbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
' { Z# j: H o# _; e5 Wtraffic, faster.
& d' a: L7 `0 U- W7 [At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.! h5 i& h0 h; e* S) x
