Set Up Web Hosting0 N# l) n- T. }) I1 n
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said7 u) e& Q& z) E7 U5 o) u- m
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
5 {6 T0 B5 K, e A- Y& |- j. z# Lhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with6 R* C: u) f# b& }& V
whoever else is on the same server as you.
: c$ w) s4 C9 s7 }2 d9 ]Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast8 H+ ^4 a9 M+ F
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 30 S2 w+ Z" z& Q+ K9 y* l5 f
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
6 q! v- m" v6 q! `To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
) Y# ]! T7 g, P1 K1 g3 K% V5 xhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).5 P T1 M5 |9 T, r9 L
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
/ e3 C! w8 v( @4 w' Y! I- {1 athe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
{; J2 W6 h* R1 J" k6 `fit.
5 h8 [+ N& u8 mSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
3 T! J+ n7 S7 W" tthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
8 H, h I& X! w7 g% j. ttheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.$ Z; ~9 g$ }& U) m' Y+ L
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
6 e; M6 A& R7 d% ?any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.5 a* [+ j, r1 W7 ?
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space# t* \5 w4 {7 u4 M
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
8 m0 b9 o" @5 s' \partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
( w O* u$ V! f8 r% f0 CA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
( m3 m5 I0 u0 `+ jbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
7 `, q7 G3 U( b5 [traffic, faster. k ]9 T0 ~8 g0 P# V
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
