Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said5 w' q: t3 c# V* K8 K, {
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared: z; E. G( p0 I2 v
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
5 S# P8 l* ^# o) {whoever else is on the same server as you.
. ~6 q+ {" R( _Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast; G; r; `* H. T# g3 W
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 31 w0 e5 |2 O6 b
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.8 p3 o/ m7 K+ `) |
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
3 u( S2 I4 E1 j) x4 ?* n7 }house full of roommates (hosting customers).# W( B" X6 S; D" T
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
3 x# T0 P5 Y: `5 t$ H: Rthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
' l- f4 ] h( H4 i. [fit.
0 |; d3 C! R8 r1 h& u( LSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than1 h4 N2 |9 f9 [0 o. d
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate6 }. k S' Q6 L& E5 z3 B: L" U
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of." O( n. E9 Y6 C
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For6 ~* Y/ Z" ]/ [ l L5 P
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.* [8 L2 i7 k2 T" q, R* a0 x
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
6 ~+ O. {3 ]/ k/ Z; g. Z0 N" Iinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
2 E0 d3 ~0 T4 |, l3 dpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.4 F* C5 M9 z8 P
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
# M1 r5 l' U3 W# R* X1 q$ ^belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
" K/ v! r# i% c$ Z% `2 H7 s9 C2 Ktraffic, faster.
$ i$ k* r$ I# \5 }3 ?+ V; [At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.$ f1 G0 l. I: |" `$ z, I; u$ T
