" y$ a X, Q4 D$ Y5 U3 x: f! |Set Up Web Hosting4 _. d c+ O1 h6 J1 r$ g: d
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
& g5 i$ v( k0 s0 B5 Mabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
; ?7 a( f$ c4 w* N. ?host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with4 l0 |6 H: l! \# Y3 G
whoever else is on the same server as you.
' u& n' N \' s% `Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast8 i! M3 Z6 ~; D% ?* y9 G2 n
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
8 H4 S( [) ~3 t0 ~seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
8 U1 ?7 S7 T. X! }$ nTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
- ]( n* C- X2 n6 d# chouse full of roommates (hosting customers).' d" s6 g4 B6 D' L+ j# q; Q6 u
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside# Y8 v: v2 u6 B7 k s5 [
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
- N6 [! r5 P5 Sfit.9 j& Y3 O: W# J+ Q2 M! g4 U- F
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
, ~$ E& m& Z. @0 Ithe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
& ~6 h1 \+ |, {) e* X0 z7 \their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.8 r# T" M; r' L6 R* I' M
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
5 P1 E3 P! b+ p! }3 t$ Eany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic., Y- l* N( k/ g& D2 q
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
7 f( @9 g. z* Ninside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is1 |3 O' S& _% m$ @" V
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
% \ N2 q- T) i' q& u7 k3 D, nA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
, G2 z+ d- ^9 o8 C6 D5 ?belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more$ R$ r- k9 N" h+ o2 e. M6 {7 s8 h; s
traffic, faster.- v$ q; e5 q; b- X: n# V, w
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.' T2 b2 [# `% v0 ?7 P! O
