% r3 E" X" i$ HGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said$ \* p/ i. u6 V
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared! H$ k8 z/ E+ m
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
7 W, ^# I9 X- v/ awhoever else is on the same server as you.. C6 J: x5 ?3 d
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
& C- O2 m I* r) V/ E4 T8 F2 F4 kenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
6 n" u0 }8 h+ [2 p' E" Aseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
; m7 i( Y% E2 {7 f" _+ v7 ITo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
8 V! q$ C2 v4 ahouse full of roommates (hosting customers).5 m$ N2 H+ e: R$ o- M9 F
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
- z8 ?+ }4 c* K9 y4 x# ?4 o& X' nthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will# K2 ^' ~9 y7 z9 f4 B* r5 ^
fit.5 n8 z* ?6 k5 F8 X( ?, y+ k
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
0 a' X" \: k$ K: U Jthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate( d8 d* O: G8 q. y" i1 L
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.1 I+ _, Y N2 j1 C. i
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
! F0 s5 ~$ F" G) Vany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
7 h: O# l0 M2 w% RIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
8 ~. U1 c& s& _4 [/ @/ Vinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
) a D; g: y+ f7 k# Ypartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
1 l. R6 h9 {. J4 PA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources+ `) I4 w; a* v3 J
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
; W4 a$ V. o* Rtraffic, faster.; ^9 V. c' L' o8 E
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

: a) d( _9 E; V# T, ~Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,
" L0 f- E# f& |: t$ C% U" gbland one is fine to start with, to host both your landing pages and tracking software. The .com,
