Set Up Web Hosting4 b3 z3 ~" x% _' ^% M/ ?0 W
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
+ S1 x0 `: a, u* J1 {2 Yabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
, t, w) a5 w) C% P0 Qhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
) f. [ _: c$ F! i+ i6 j; }whoever else is on the same server as you.
4 @/ L3 e+ i; nSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast \% h6 ~6 v5 C( F
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3# a! ]0 w; D d) j% _& ]# I& Y
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.3 O& R e. S- H6 ~4 B8 w* M
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
- E# A$ w" x7 l4 {# q: mhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).# w( P9 H8 d" X# i% P) r$ u8 c0 i! n* r
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside& ^/ d1 b, s! o0 `' P; V* t7 O7 X
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will! j. y' ?3 S* z" h; v
fit.
* Z( Z5 i( Y/ \* E; iSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than% J0 i# _0 G) M" t, x
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate' v3 f1 F( u* p# F
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.$ {& v- v3 v v, y7 w& F( E
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
& Q& r! m8 ]) f. p) W4 l2 g Fany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.& E L# M/ {5 j, u$ L1 Z
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space8 G/ j& [" ]: r1 D: q; h4 n1 L
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is V/ R2 n, u% F" h
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
3 S7 l8 L% D8 r0 f BA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
6 {8 z; l! Q& D: W% y! o) y, k a; Kbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more2 C0 L: e9 h, q( ?5 _# x& t
traffic, faster.& B% T: F9 J0 s" v! g1 ~+ G& p
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
