, `" ~) ~! o- F8 {, `Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said! V/ A2 [- S1 ^! Y# S) m0 D
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
: z8 p8 {( S Y9 p: Khost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
8 J+ y: u; m5 C) G3 xwhoever else is on the same server as you.3 D: X; ~3 I" r+ w# F! a
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast8 w/ Q$ E6 n" \ Z
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
# @5 s1 J9 J0 G) r0 C3 hseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.! _' Z# q! Z% @8 O6 F
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a$ F( r6 n6 {/ W
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
& L; T. K7 F7 I) d6 i% L* }1 MIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
+ S& L$ x/ m1 |( ~; Y& ethe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will0 h( [& Z& h/ S
fit.
- B& o% ?7 j7 k1 Z: C) D" t* ySay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than R2 u! V5 [5 T, T6 j u$ P
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
8 m2 x9 a: H6 L* ?their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
9 q3 |- v: v7 XIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For5 V0 j- S1 P: U" @( {
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.* i9 H6 ^* s6 U/ M7 m9 I+ e0 r
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space; H: B/ o' i9 f3 r/ S
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
7 S1 ?) B: A f! M. S9 W+ k- \partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
) G9 P8 w' w: e/ p6 pA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
+ J& X* P! h7 Q* ybelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
6 \' C+ B3 B3 J+ K! |: Ytraffic, faster.+ A" u9 v$ X" [: X& ], x) U1 j
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
