The affiliate marketing space is filled with offers, internet traffic sources, promotion techniques and an

( h1 p+ y, P# n) uyou'll wake up to millions of dollars overnight. For anyone who has ACTUALLY done affiliate marketing6 _# e% ]( G D
with any success, these claims are laughable and far from the truth.
2 W4 [" V, P8 [& l4 @/ KAffiliate marketing is simply a business, like any other. There are customers, sales, suppliers and cash
+ k/ K& C% d5 k7 ?7 m/ I; F4 Yflow management. The main benefits are the low barrier to entry compared to other businesses, and

marketing has spent countless hours learning, trying new things, launching, tweaking, improving,

3.Account at a CPV/PPV traffic network (e.g. LeadImpact, Trafficvance, MediaTraffic)

% R5 U2 S) g1 dThis guide describes from start to finish, how to get started in affiliate marketing by running traffic

6 t6 ]$ n) x5 R5 WAffiliate Marketing- is an internet-based marketing practice in which a business pays one or more( H3 y ?2 a) C4 [: v9 T& k9 M& m
affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. The two main

types off affiliate networks are cost per sale (CPS) and cost per action (CPA).
) c* P$ O/ a# O- I: I6 b' xCost per sale (CPS) network- Every time an affiliate sends a visitor who buys a product, the affiliate
' o. _9 Z D# f j2 T$ Rreceives a commission on that product. An example would be the Amazon.com Associates program," G, R9 X/ \, D
Comission Junction or Clickbank.
$ s/ H5 F: z: k' T0 @" Q5 v1 ICost per action (CPA) network- The affiliate earns a commission by sending a visitor who completes
2 `9 c2 `+ f4 {) s6 h% K! can action like filling out a form, submitting their email address, signing up for a service or sometimes6 y8 X* p Y& W: W- H; J
buying a product. An example would be Ads4Dough or Neverblue.5 \/ ?) Z+ v: H( o
Affiliate Manager- an affiliate's contact at a CPA affiliate network who is responsible for the affiliate's7 q2 b, l8 U) ?. |; N
account, getting the affiliate approved for offers, bumping payouts and just about everything else6 @0 O+ ]9 I- k% E W i
related to an affiliate's account at the network. Having a good relationship with your affiliate manager* K; m; L, ?3 Y
right from the start can really help you.
# {! E# V" o% \* uPPV- means pay-per-view, and is also called CPV (cost-per-view). This type of internet traffic is served
( m3 y7 K+ j; G6 `" _8 |! Rin pop-up form through downloadable software on the visitor's computer. The advertiser pays per8 Q0 D, l9 M" d. U( j
view, starting anywhere from .01 or .015.
; h* s) S3 y% c) L$ VIn order to use this type of internet traffic, the affiliate can sign up with a number of different. S6 p+ i1 g" q
companies who serve popups. The main PPV/CPV networks are Trafficvance, LeadImpact,: x9 g0 m: J4 l( I5 g
MediaTraffic, and AdOn Network.
' p: N, E' O9 C, fDon't popups get blocked by pop blocker software?
' t6 v# }2 Y9 F4 UNo. Popups are served in a new browser window as if the visitor had opened the new window- k7 @8 C- }: f1 f

How many popups get served to the visitor?6 \' v$ ]- w" i1 ?: o% i
The number of popups served varies depending on the PPV network. Some pop more frequently
5 o$ y& e6 D0 \! q(LeadImpact), others less frequently (Trafficvance). PPV advertising companies make their money by8 a+ n4 F" Q0 d3 x+ {0 _
serving this kind of advertising, so they have to toe the line between keeping their software% u7 m' d' g1 X- U
downloaded and still making a profit.
0 [, l7 u: r# Y# D9 q* B( {Isn't this type of software bad? Why would anyone keep it on their computer?
* A" O6 U% Y }( E7 dNo, this type of software doesn't harm the user's computer. L: Z b# M5 G# B8 o( |3 H
Companies that specialize in this type of traffic offer their visitor an incentive like screensavers, games,
: }( M' ]* [9 j* M: A( ]toolbars or videos to place the software on their computer. The visitor keeps the software in place so
/ o4 A" E* W8 w% B) nthat they can continue to have access to the incentive.

How to Get Accepted into a CPA Network
# ~# {1 C4 E9 s5 L) NIn order to start marketing offers, it will be necessary to join one or more CPA networks. A good place
# e G% c& F( _to start looking for networks is Offervault which lists offers and lets you compare payouts across
; G" C# X- C4 p7 k& }$ kdifferent networks./ b2 _( Y8 g' Y
Once you find a network that you want to join, fill out the affiliate (sometimes called publisher) A. f0 @5 _9 A/ s9 F5 p+ w3 Z
application and be as specific as possible about your promotion methods. Usually some time after
( q! f6 [: G* V. Y$ S1 U6 ~# creceiving your application, the company will call to interview you. The phone interview is a critical
2 \6 p/ }# _9 W6 n) }$ q/ T% Opart of the application process, and most networks will deny your application outright if they can't get
- d( e& K4 v2 X: }1 C* Lyou on the phone.
3 r! D' P6 i, K* gOften, the person who does your phone interview will actually become your affiliate manager after% {2 A1 ~+ S% m! l
you get accepted, so it's a good time to put your best food forward.
: ?, X3 K8 I0 I& [You might not relish at the idea of someone grilling you about your internet marketing methods over: V* d, r& W0 j8 f! x" C* U. H4 k
the phone, but trust me, this part is critical. Have answers in mind for the questions:+ S/ u7 ^, `+ h- Z& V% C. [3 `
What methods do you use to market offers?
5 _0 G( X+ E& Z- E+ KDo you already have a website you will be using?
: m# E% i, n9 S6 j& CHow much is your advertising budget?

Once you provide satisfactory answers to these questions, the network will approve or deny your
/ y+ i% @: c `8 V7 {( Rapplication. If you get denied, just keep applying or call someone on the phone and try again. Be
4 J9 i5 F; L; S# `8 ypersistent. Also, getting a personal recommendation from someone who is already an active affiliate3 v" T) `" \/ L4 m7 Z' T% H' y; c, r7 z

To meet people from various networks, sometimes it can be effective to go to conferences like Affiliate
/ M( v: {* R4 @& h/ DSummit, or AdTech and make sure that you talk to people. Also, lots of affiliate managers and network" k; r& }# P1 f# r% d8 L: b6 S

After You Join a CPA Network
$ ]$ l9 ^' J' X8 g9 S9 |Once you're a member of a CPA Network, it's a really good idea to reach out to your affiliate manager. f& o! x- p7 r: P2 D3 [7 L
and make an attempt to get to know them a little bit.
x% ~4 |: G- d( n+ y7 N7 [" p7 BFrankly, there are great affiliate managers and horrible ones, and a good one can be worth their
7 ~: n4 D& ~; }3 ~/ b+ v$ q2 Y! Uweight in gold. Start feeling them out from the start and try to get to know them. Once you get7 r2 v& E& v/ z/ [

Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
% s$ s2 U" |; v4 E2 ~about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared" W2 B: [ ~2 `0 K8 M
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with4 \& p. ~: j2 S9 h0 l; {
whoever else is on the same server as you.
: k: p' O! ]6 x& c0 o; h( G0 @Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
' i/ w' k. @9 henough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
! h" j; V6 D9 Y4 w3 B- ~seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.# z6 Z# A- a& b! D+ e
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a/ p! o/ l( t0 T5 {' r8 _4 G
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
1 z9 I$ [. d; h2 V+ k) XIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside$ k% d, T" ^, {) j3 z* Y
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
( D/ N8 T% k/ S% j* Ofit.
- C% E: Q5 [' vSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than6 T' { L# \( g4 ~4 m
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate6 @1 W3 U% @. s- o% _) A& h4 r
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.# O: e J1 u2 L K0 x( V0 _- e! h
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
) @2 l) m( U! a5 v9 S) S7 h n) }any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic." V% a; f: W8 m1 R- _
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
+ ^0 `" d6 b! Cinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is8 T& N5 }( w' M5 n! a8 b
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
% q# Q3 a) Z7 Z- `/ DA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources6 ]6 y7 ~9 E; ]0 D4 R' Z* c
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more$ e7 ^- L& S& l+ l; ^6 Z1 }
traffic, faster.) {, R+ E% M2 X* z5 j" D% r+ @
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,
- E/ R0 p5 h2 T% g d/ Qbland one is fine to start with, to host both your landing pages and tracking software. The .com,: x. g7 r$ K5 _8 U
.net, .org extension doesn't really matter, this isn't a domain we're going to try to use to SEO rank for a( o8 u8 i6 L- z6 K# p# t
term or build a whole website. Q& l1 r! e8 j; r, ^) K6 \' n
After you buy hosting, a domain and get those all attached to each other, the next step is to install
3 @- O6 R% p2 }tracking software on your domain. This is really important, because it is necessary to track your
! m; D, `2 \# G( Y+ n" d7 D0 d( g3 Bconversions down to keyword level so that you can optimize your campaigns. Without proper

Tracking 202 is the hosted version of Prosper202. You can create a free account and then build your. {- h9 N- q# J
campaigns using the Tracking202 internet-based interface which is similar to the Prosper202 user

# A- n# G2 T) Z9 x9 mIf you choose this option, keep in mind that your tracking software, one of the most important parts of0 ~6 s5 E, R3 O5 X
your campaigns and through which all of your affiliate links are run- is at the mercy of the Tracking202
* X; g: H5 v. O `) E9 hinterface, and their hosting.0 \! U# o5 E, I2 i: `, g
Also, your tracking software reveals the most critical part of your campaigns- the converting keywords

potentially leave you open to huge risk if someone else caught on to what offer and keywords you

First, I log into Ads4Dough and click on Campaigns, then Email/Zip submits.
+ T( ?: O& d0 h4 d X' y6 M* tThis is where I get my link for the offer, place my tracking pixel from Prosper202 or CPVLab, and can, v" R/ k8 W; n) i1 [0 ]% _: O
get creatives like banners or images specifically for the offer.2 w6 C# r0 U) t

In Prosper 202, your pixel is located under Setup → Get Postback/Pixel and the screen looks like this:4 H9 q0 u5 H* r: S( U
