Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said: g; L+ N1 V& T5 z- i
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
: \* d( `/ ^6 R2 j) u% Dhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with5 V2 o/ l* F" v3 T3 U
whoever else is on the same server as you., f/ `+ }3 T8 ?+ i
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
+ Q3 E7 r: D# n, O2 Z# {enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3- D, E! q6 w3 o$ w6 a
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.; f! {. H8 O, Z Y$ o# Z3 w
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a' y: f; j9 t/ M6 S% f! Y+ a/ _
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
. t0 y3 m( Z6 s$ y8 PIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside% [- c/ q* y- y' ?, O
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
0 v. X: L/ G% V0 y9 S3 f0 D/ \fit.% j9 m }' _- [$ s; ~& V, U
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
- p4 ^! z! p# G# [6 B. qthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate# V9 K! e: w; Q% J. C
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.9 _7 ?8 D3 T9 a: j3 j) B
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For( J3 \8 }' S9 u1 x3 q) B. `
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.+ x5 D. q1 ?0 M+ Y, x
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
( f- P, K7 i9 X" h$ O+ oinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is! t* v' E: K! {; X$ r2 m& M
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
) k! u) x2 A/ D3 C j, MA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources4 U' X, d( g9 j$ r" r4 ?- a p5 t
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more% n: q8 r" Y: P) a1 n: ~4 ?+ V& ~
traffic, faster.7 C! o9 w( c. t" `* a
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
