Set Up Web Hosting3 g- X; d, _" L% ^3 N5 o
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
: b9 V; c5 I8 E- [. ~, E1 }3 v0 kabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared1 J# d; s% I3 T0 V3 x8 r
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
" s$ D! C/ L# P6 N! y, Iwhoever else is on the same server as you.- b5 X/ _) N8 I* K; I
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast' j+ o5 g) r: f4 j2 z2 \) D$ s
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3' i3 m2 i! Z% E) n' h: u2 ~* L" A
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.3 r$ Q4 e9 M% x( T
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a) h1 d* S' d6 D- G/ M
house full of roommates (hosting customers)." V8 c$ E5 u0 M$ C4 v
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
5 X- D- n9 Z' Q7 Fthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
- p; T! h( E. W5 u# j3 c3 {fit.
$ J' t/ D1 D. z9 X) P# tSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
5 h$ N/ B& n9 m9 cthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
* P7 p- r" ^, L# j) Dtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.- W& X* b8 N9 D: S) I
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
1 `0 I3 H% x0 R9 y+ @; i1 fany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
* R$ b3 k% \+ h3 w [' f6 d. hIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
0 y- k) X# N: L$ @1 Ginside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
# W9 f. M; L2 O7 Opartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
2 r7 _: C5 u; F3 {5 D" _A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources/ Z; ?9 N3 N$ v: ^/ u" o: I, l
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
3 ^' K$ P6 @% }traffic, faster.
1 @, o# _( f8 C7 _0 W; v1 UAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
