Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said* N) M0 D2 I4 e x/ S; O- X J$ ^1 o1 @
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared7 ?; Q* W% e' z) S* v) f% a- Q: b
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with3 \' J I5 Z! P0 g
whoever else is on the same server as you.
7 P ] k% q3 L$ fSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast: h: l# H4 l! J& k" E
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3, r8 a4 R" H3 h6 i. M0 ~5 K8 L
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
; A5 }' |6 f. t9 iTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a8 f: G2 u* f3 c* _/ r
house full of roommates (hosting customers).4 i' q/ `3 n; L# a
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside7 B8 Z7 ^- y0 Z! |6 ^
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
, T& ]$ H; S+ b. R9 X$ p; X2 l# O Ffit.& h1 t& y! Q" a8 A! A, n$ L

their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.* `, ?8 s9 z8 l% s8 c9 L
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
7 _1 f3 e9 c9 ]; y/ }3 h, [+ C& |4 Jany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
: ?, v6 h/ _+ B# a; _In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space$ w3 G" D8 q/ ?7 P3 H6 g
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
4 Q9 |" q/ X, s3 `3 r s, e$ C" m' @partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.7 _( _5 d9 M1 ]6 }' B* p
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources6 ]/ a1 ?2 K- ]0 x
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more5 g( }- }7 i% X# f3 d$ `( j `) t
traffic, faster.
Y& ?" p) t4 n% y0 v5 BAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
