Set Up Web Hosting
' O9 F: U7 h- R! J6 q9 r; uGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said- T: X$ K) v+ ]. L4 `7 a
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared W( G; J/ f7 @' B v. s p8 \ a
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
* D* d0 W4 z$ z. Lwhoever else is on the same server as you.
. l& j; | Y& C ^Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
/ ~- B$ V5 M2 K! V) X) i& d% c' S* N* lenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
$ N1 k+ m+ l% }. N1 vseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
* b: ` K/ W- K) o; ITo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a* z, b @1 h& L y% d
house full of roommates (hosting customers).6 ?9 w- `. _( B: I% y/ y9 X+ `. {3 N
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside! F3 o8 h* g y( |* X4 V
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will# @0 H2 p# G( B- Q& ]7 e0 U
fit.
. F6 l" P* H. ESay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
3 v! {( R' c. ?/ v4 E+ g9 dthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate3 C, t9 X; }5 i. I) m
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
' v9 b# Q: Z( ~% s8 b$ ~# Y8 h5 U7 HIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For7 B& G! F/ r: Z8 X
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
5 r2 ~ w. ]7 b# ^0 L6 hIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
9 g1 \* x0 @( C* s# e, W. h3 ^- einside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
) n7 g/ z8 T2 i, b' f, p4 ^: Hpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
5 E" ?/ }* R* F2 U ]& H4 A) L) @A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
9 V' j3 j! W- x Mbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more* w. w* I. a, x9 O' k" M5 y
traffic, faster.
) e4 n/ D! q: \# N- I1 _At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
