Set Up Web Hosting" X4 u3 K' w4 A- Q
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
! ]3 }3 v, K! |( j9 Q3 H" Zabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared$ g7 u5 d% ~6 S% X: @2 j
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with s; L6 I7 Q i/ x. c( E9 j
whoever else is on the same server as you.* l5 M: K8 M5 g# w: y s) ]% @
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
# A& @: R; \$ d l, u* U9 G$ Oenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
+ K4 k% C6 w! h* j, n1 V7 gseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.* @ `$ t, a X2 Q% T V
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
. i$ n1 }$ T$ }2 yhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).6 R4 v7 ~3 e& `1 x. k- i4 h
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside7 r d( m3 k5 Q$ z8 }
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
* ]' V$ r( ]' w2 e; r! j' g; Ifit.
/ t( s: a: [, n" m: K. USay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
8 _6 c' z* D" r" v* e6 |$ uthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate% l$ ~/ H/ |4 ]' W
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
3 E. c' C% } q) IIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
. H, }/ M# \# f) `. @ |any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
$ [( w! [/ _# O$ vIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
0 B% z2 ~- {* M0 L- ?% D/ s1 Binside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is2 W1 X c2 _' r! z
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.) D. _' y2 [& e! k/ s
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
' r x! g! ?7 V3 mbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more7 z$ \& v8 n# B5 l( h
traffic, faster.
- }0 t% O5 w( _& [3 i5 c/ tAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
