& [; I" E1 d+ k+ V8 GGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said y9 K8 R) }2 ^4 m
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
0 {' U, P5 j l4 ]6 K3 h/ b% chost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
+ |, G* @4 F- S* w8 {9 Ywhoever else is on the same server as you.8 q, B# I& z1 w4 u5 x; A+ s
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
% w2 h3 c" c8 m& w- b. benough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3( S5 I( B3 r: F; U! ?
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.' i* c7 M; K z$ x" \! M* t4 ]
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
( R' l: A8 e8 C- X3 Thouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
8 P$ p4 P# b% }& ^. _" oIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
- ^1 x+ ~1 g. U3 b6 l. Z% \. z$ W4 athe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will* f, U7 L* X& J3 e; V g' `
fit.2 O( q' }( Q; w. ]/ ~
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than/ K2 @8 M c5 @; L& ^0 [2 ?/ V
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate3 x: {1 |, ?4 O" i
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.3 ?0 o7 |+ H* ^/ k& R+ M' @
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For6 `- g* o; V \) w
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
. b0 s( s2 V6 P1 W' F& SIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space- G4 P5 R) _" z+ j
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
! _# Z( D7 [. Y: W' H( dpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
# N: ~4 F9 ]# L* @0 }! fA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
. ~9 \9 a4 K0 A7 p/ F5 @+ S0 Nbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
6 S" H9 g8 N* v; `2 Qtraffic, faster.
* @: c; {$ K% } f1 s; wAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.6 y3 K4 O' J2 b& L- d% U
