Set Up Web Hosting
X; @- l8 S5 E4 N3 z0 B" ]1 q5 V! tGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
) d" b& p$ r3 i6 A! Yabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared, a+ W9 q2 l* K
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
- O0 e6 j3 C$ R/ B3 c0 iwhoever else is on the same server as you.$ }- q7 l0 x2 q1 E+ M& i- ^
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
8 ]5 H) l+ a' ^& q( N( T% U& l9 z. C2 cenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
2 s$ o {5 z2 z; {7 m, cseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.6 j& R% x- s# ~6 o. o
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
/ ]) l- s1 d" Z( P8 [; O' Ehouse full of roommates (hosting customers).. N i" o* b, ^" Y/ e9 v
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside5 W' Z) H! W& [' s' C$ z: Y5 k% i
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will: ]2 W! S' {! L- R4 h3 R: W
fit.
" W: b$ I' V% W% k* wSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than I5 k$ t3 v T5 T, J, I3 f
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate# {6 Y0 R( O7 h9 F9 ]* p% `
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.0 {$ W7 {( M# t: E
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
2 u" _7 ~0 w0 ~- Zany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
* V. N/ p e- q; DIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
# k/ F; @. }3 k4 U( Ginside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is3 G& r; c% q0 u% a
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
& `8 B5 X! ], [1 m8 Z8 lA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
# c, p/ E- O5 R5 j4 F/ xbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more6 d, `* n0 H7 n& O7 I; W
traffic, faster.
4 `/ r% ?3 n; n' \At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.. \5 E4 ~: H# F8 l: m
