; I# f- G; j. SGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said# |) M: ~" [) _& Q0 y, E
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared/ V8 @: f* ?: k" T! b. C
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with; u$ O2 b( V/ M0 v5 ?1 Q) H
whoever else is on the same server as you.' W' `5 u' ^' ?8 u r1 H
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
! x! x" r- Y V9 renough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
, u: l$ K t( J- b' qseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
& h6 {* q) Q5 I, Y$ I# YTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a( H7 c8 p! q5 l6 H
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
! f" B$ t& u/ c1 l5 w" \In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside

' C- J: D" s' E" K* ~; f! USay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than9 g# q! |8 n+ _; B3 q
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate+ g# ^+ ?! z; Q- V
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
, \! p/ Y! b2 X1 Q" fIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
+ z% x% ?* v7 W' Rany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
6 c1 C, @5 J2 ]( T" |7 X. m! OIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
" |# x; h4 a; X& V1 O+ }( Iinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
2 d( y5 V' j- Z, Rpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.: b- O. ]. M6 F$ y( r3 s5 S
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources+ n. p3 I' a \; }3 h
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more+ A' n5 F% v; C0 [
traffic, faster.
' W+ C* R# B; ]7 O0 b FAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
