Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
5 e& z. X- @1 j7 B/ @about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
3 K+ e+ y' J& O, D- Thost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
1 o* R \$ q' y: K) \7 nwhoever else is on the same server as you.7 f9 U5 a# E9 ]' H
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast% r4 p% \/ F) b( _7 F w
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
8 ]& n( U( |8 }# Eseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
; C* N/ I$ ~# @4 q5 eTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
! }7 b' Q" a/ [$ l( ehouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
5 C8 `1 E" k7 N5 cIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside( Q& L/ _' m, t% O
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will S" Z7 X; o# ^% `
fit.
n; `, j: k( C: y* E- k/ d' h6 MSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
% G2 T! l$ p% e# Dthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate9 ~! O1 N; b4 F) z3 i4 w6 L
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.4 i* v I# c5 S# Z9 K0 W( B
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For0 u) J# e- V' N+ c5 J
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.% y, z8 q/ Z, }7 y$ a& \
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
7 @1 I6 p) i3 p4 G; ?' y& Pinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
; a4 [0 M @, S: G" I. Fpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
: v' a. W' C3 i4 K J7 |A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
