Set Up Web Hosting
* r; w# V' o1 ^1 @9 Y$ TGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said7 {7 _. `8 H3 g" C
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared8 Y1 h! L1 x0 k) j
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with# }* _3 z8 U4 J% [4 ^
whoever else is on the same server as you.
) g7 ?0 N6 c- B, _8 `, @Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
3 x+ _) M7 C; p3 [" U G' g: aenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 35 k* v2 H8 ^. F. F4 g0 R# Z7 Y
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
) C1 k, n- r8 u9 }: X4 T' o; GTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a& b0 C7 u( _$ w" i& C. b8 j9 r
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
) A. i. k* l( @' OIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
: h- A0 H! I# _9 x$ gthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will* d# k V# @! s# V3 M- s( @' j
fit.
! o- j: P. T6 J% R- S9 ?Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
% E( q0 f! ]$ Qthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate/ L# l8 g3 N' y$ c- O- k6 r
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
4 z$ } L2 F6 V# Y3 pIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
; |' T+ O) Z2 W$ z1 Oany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.# j k% c7 `$ w
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space! f. E9 K5 G0 p3 l5 Y
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
" O7 \0 b$ d2 hpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
g/ c5 a% |/ |' hA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources% t4 R" ~; d D" \$ s$ @
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
6 T, f; q* j2 y/ ]: C! gtraffic, faster.
l- Y0 ]$ e9 o! [At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
