Set Up Web Hosting5 H) g0 r7 s8 y, ]2 i7 b" O5 R, s
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
3 ~4 c  l& q: r) X. `4 `about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared, a- K: n2 g2 w
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
7 S6 D) f. C2 L# A; J# C0 dwhoever else is on the same server as you.
8 K# s7 ?1 H) K4 R0 l3 CSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast- Z( B& E( ?1 @# J
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
, L- c4 V  Y; @8 ?- `7 useconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
1 w/ b# S+ i- e! d2 C5 @To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a3 k7 Q% c$ A3 a* a' v$ b6 m3 j# `
house full of roommates (hosting customers).$ K/ M9 a- [3 h. u5 F: E
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside8 @( j7 Z( t1 g, k3 k
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will/ G# Q  {8 y5 ^  ?: [; ?
fit.% ^* s3 J. }& ]- q
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than$ b% T; D! W. E/ i8 U
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate1 g1 O. O3 v! [* S
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
4 ^$ _3 b4 O" F- }$ I- R" y! z( FIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For' `" u3 y" W; u! n
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
: _: U! U9 P5 [- j: xIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space: E" R7 ]1 c5 ^  I3 _9 F4 z
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
: c' R7 G) d. c7 }6 Y2 Fpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time., L; P- G1 R" q) Y, h
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources- Q6 S! T7 H' }1 v
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
2 K. s; t3 d% B- P9 s! b; Utraffic, faster.
' g: I4 b' F2 y! t( {2 k' dAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.3 W6 j7 Y6 B6 }3 W
Another good discussion of the difference seen by someone using shared vs vps hosting for PPV is

Domain Names for PPV: g2 y4 V# G2 F. x& a
Once you buy your hosting it's time to also buy a domain name and get it on your hosting. This is
. m% N+ Z9 _/ U" k' ^, C/ v. D6 Dwhere you're going to host your tracking software and your landing pages if you decide to make them.& i4 U3 ^- }0 P) i$ O
Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,6 f) c6 F: F* K4 y) F
bland one is fine to start with, to host both your landing pages and tracking software. The .com,
9 c; Z- q8 h* x4 Z3 N.net, .org extension doesn't really matter, this isn't a domain we're going to try to use to SEO rank for a0 m5 z( c- N& A8 A7 @1 T  r; e8 S
