<p>Dear Amazon Web Services Customer,</p>& H5 }1 A) {' v. i# U/ k5 o

<p>We are excited to announce that Route 53 DNS Failover now supports 1 q! {) p# ~ ]4 N' T# Z# i$ [
Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) endpoints. Starting today, you can use ! r3 L+ _( Y1 c! P! b
Route 53’s existing health checking and DNS failover features for 6 K/ T! X0 P# F, h9 J( c8 F
applications running behind an ELB, to increase redundancy and 8 C) E+ A; K- X; x. P* S
availability for these apps.</p>/ F% E: m* n4 W ]4 ~8 M! G Y" |
8 r* y$ c* h! ]3 H0 p! P# o. x7 ~" ?
<p>With DNS Failover, Amazon Route 53 can help detect an outage of your ; `4 I- k6 a# Y( _* z1 A6 t
website and redirect your end users to alternate locations where your . L( x9 H# I1 h; o1 a, N- ]! I
application is operating properly. When you enable this feature, Route ( l. J) o2 T! a
53 uses health checks—regularly making Internet requests to your $ j. N$ N7 @ P/ K7 F
application’s endpoints from multiple locations around the world—to $ U$ J P1 P/ |/ G4 A0 I8 u
determine whether each endpoint of your application is up or down. </p>9 y- a! g% N- e
( ]5 F8 f& s& V5 ]$ P7 p+ v
<p>For ELB endpoints, Route 53 evaluates the health of the load balancer5 L y8 G" r$ {' a7 F
itself and the health of your application running on the EC2 instances ( }6 L$ k$ G! k( u0 u
behind it. If any part of the stack goes down, Route 53 detects the 4 l( k5 \, b! T. h$ q. o
failure, routes traffic away from the load balancer, and directs traffic 0 ^9 \% [7 D9 W g0 _
to other healthy ELB endpoints. Route 53 DNS Failover also supports EC2 7 T1 s( x) I- r( c* w8 h& X( d- p3 {
endpoints as well as endpoints located in your own datacenter.</p> 8 n: N4 ]4 C. f- P4 X( N

<p>Using Route 53 DNS Failover, you can run your primary application $ A* u; B3 w9 w2 s/ N' ~
simultaneously in multiple AWS regions around the world. Route 53 9 E6 r3 N6 f3 F x
automatically removes from service any region where your application is , s. Y0 B, C" a* I1 j
unavailable. You can also take advantage of a simple backup site hosted ( f7 T! c1 ^# O9 m! Y( D3 z6 b
on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), with Route 53 directing % J& ~! T$ ~% w# g. j
users to this backup site in the event that your application becomes 2 y! \& ]8 f( _+ q7 b9 K
unavailable.</p> 7 L( ~; z* N5 N1 k+ U
