<p>Dear Amazon Web Services Customer,</p>0 u$ ~) |; d0 M1 `) Y

<p>We are excited to announce that Route 53 DNS Failover now supports 8 T0 h e: j5 ~% B% @4 ?
Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) endpoints. Starting today, you can use 6 ~. h/ ]/ l1 ]6 c5 m4 O, ?
Route 53’s existing health checking and DNS failover features for % r' Z. x5 K5 r* P9 Z0 Y
applications running behind an ELB, to increase redundancy and * f' H( I/ P! R: l3 U
availability for these apps.</p>( K3 F2 \) m0 @% ^
( G6 M7 l# W" C! n8 i$ k- d6 }
<p>With DNS Failover, Amazon Route 53 can help detect an outage of your 7 N7 ^5 ? d- v+ ]$ o6 |9 J( R
website and redirect your end users to alternate locations where your 4 \* N; R: c# g7 g
application is operating properly. When you enable this feature, Route ; q$ r1 e$ z5 \& `( ]
53 uses health checks—regularly making Internet requests to your p- V+ }2 [2 D* [, A
application’s endpoints from multiple locations around the world—to ) ]9 r4 a2 P5 E/ [
determine whether each endpoint of your application is up or down. </p> ( ?5 O+ ?) g" C. L9 R: Z' b O$ y& J
/ b* Y7 r! c! Z0 X1 t) Q
<p>For ELB endpoints, Route 53 evaluates the health of the load balancer7 `* y/ G) {3 o
itself and the health of your application running on the EC2 instances # ~; \2 A. C7 ~% [1 V
behind it. If any part of the stack goes down, Route 53 detects the ) [1 {6 _3 e, T+ N7 M
failure, routes traffic away from the load balancer, and directs traffic $ r& U5 j$ f8 T/ t
to other healthy ELB endpoints. Route 53 DNS Failover also supports EC2; S5 x9 I- z) B/ r
endpoints as well as endpoints located in your own datacenter.</p>3 ]& X: j) G% Y0 b+ a

<p>Using Route 53 DNS Failover, you can run your primary application ; T0 e$ J& _; v! o
simultaneously in multiple AWS regions around the world. Route 53 0 o7 W/ |; @3 R0 x; r
automatically removes from service any region where your application is : [# c j, V; _; m5 d6 x) F1 h
unavailable. You can also take advantage of a simple backup site hosted " c) A4 B4 F- N, E9 a" }
on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), with Route 53 directing 1 g1 b$ {1 W5 W. k8 j+ L. f9 ]0 I2 ^
users to this backup site in the event that your application becomes / Q$ D g1 r/ ]/ l, C
unavailable.</p>! d- E* R* N- ~# j4 M' P& A
