We are excited to announce that Route 53 DNS Failover now supports 8 q. C5 }9 I4 P5 i
Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) endpoints. Starting today, you can use " k- o$ `& X5 L( O. l. b! S9 ?
Route 53’s existing health checking and DNS failover features for 8 y0 p5 i8 S2 J" J8 ~
applications running behind an ELB, to increase redundancy and 6 E, y) `5 {, I3 ^# |
availability for these apps.
2 P! s S2 D" Q/ O( D, j

With DNS Failover, Amazon Route 53 can help detect an outage of your j S. M9 m( W- W# W
website and redirect your end users to alternate locations where your / [% y# I; v- D9 L- C
application is operating properly. When you enable this feature, Route + v3 N3 |" ?' m7 s( @! D# p! Z0 w$ U: I

For ELB endpoints, Route 53 evaluates the health of the load balancer/ I; V5 |2 W p4 P9 |& d: V: @
itself and the health of your application running on the EC2 instances ; a% D; J( E1 g
behind it. If any part of the stack goes down, Route 53 detects the # q7 D. b) G# H, G' J
failure, routes traffic away from the load balancer, and directs traffic3 j- h9 _. ~" a: T0 u( t" w
to other healthy ELB endpoints. Route 53 DNS Failover also supports EC2 . K) f5 ~ Y( ?: a X
endpoints as well as endpoints located in your own datacenter.
0 Y; F9 E! X1 l, Z
