<p>We are excited to announce that Route 53 DNS Failover now supports - ^9 t' g. N ^+ C) z7 ?
Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) endpoints. Starting today, you can use 1 S g* J. G! G3 E
Route 53’s existing health checking and DNS failover features for ) x" E5 a( Q; b+ x) \
applications running behind an ELB, to increase redundancy and 4 S. ]$ p4 U$ T( S, \
availability for these apps.</p> 9 Y/ l4 v8 ^$ _7 Q/ n1 ~

<p>With DNS Failover, Amazon Route 53 can help detect an outage of your " E, y4 l+ q8 y( ?# P
website and redirect your end users to alternate locations where your ) l: p6 i9 Q c2 m7 C7 G' T
application is operating properly. When you enable this feature, Route / f( U# r: Z8 [* j+ u( `% e
53 uses health checks—regularly making Internet requests to your , N. M- f+ O5 ~; Q) O/ X
application’s endpoints from multiple locations around the world—to 0 |7 _! [8 @- H. Z: k" X
determine whether each endpoint of your application is up or down. </p> / A) }5 m0 E- T) D" T

<p>For ELB endpoints, Route 53 evaluates the health of the load balancer* A) H, K7 h3 n0 b2 f0 _6 |
itself and the health of your application running on the EC2 instances : s1 i$ w- G* ]+ c% L; T. v
behind it. If any part of the stack goes down, Route 53 detects the . i- }: p8 }1 t
failure, routes traffic away from the load balancer, and directs traffic* |8 i( c7 w' Q) @7 h2 z7 O5 W; o# }
to other healthy ELB endpoints. Route 53 DNS Failover also supports EC2 q0 G9 c% b$ C$ z, O0 H5 h
endpoints as well as endpoints located in your own datacenter.</p> d# P& e5 c/ t' |& H: n

<p>Using Route 53 DNS Failover, you can run your primary application & V, ]$ D) {- A9 y
