<p>With DNS Failover, Amazon Route 53 can help detect an outage of your " l+ @ H0 j/ W" a- e4 w/ D2 z
website and redirect your end users to alternate locations where your 6 k6 }' \3 s, C: X
application is operating properly. When you enable this feature, Route 9 ]/ b: A/ M/ t' W
53 uses health checks—regularly making Internet requests to your 5 O% ]# ~4 G; M( y ^
application’s endpoints from multiple locations around the world—to 0 W# m R) ? O# K1 e$ f1 u
determine whether each endpoint of your application is up or down. </p> & z! S. Z: G0 p& n- C/ V0 ?. ]8 N

<p>For ELB endpoints, Route 53 evaluates the health of the load balancer# Y- @% {; g3 w
itself and the health of your application running on the EC2 instances * ?6 f4 m! C8 j' C5 F( y# c
behind it. If any part of the stack goes down, Route 53 detects the # O4 O1 O# c' W, D9 p4 g
failure, routes traffic away from the load balancer, and directs traffic 9 h5 g7 L! C$ f+ i H) I# c
to other healthy ELB endpoints. Route 53 DNS Failover also supports EC2$ l+ m! h0 j! p8 H( O' P4 ?% @# i
endpoints as well as endpoints located in your own datacenter.</p> ! y6 u( i9 q. A) S

<p>Using Route 53 DNS Failover, you can run your primary application ; q. y2 q1 h& K5 ~& S2 c5 H$ q
